THE Bulawayo Amateur Football Association will today host teams from the Central Region as part of efforts to bring area zones teams closer.
Central Region teams, Mtchemwe FC and Chiponda FC are set to play Sporting Vipers FC and Safeguard FC respectively at Barbourfields Outside grounds. Bafa chairman, Chris Mtungwazi said they are working towards bringing the area zones closer to find ways of assisting each other to improve the game within their respective areas.
Mtungwazi said the matches are also a precursor to a tournament they will hold before the end of the year. Area Zones are at the base of the Zifa structure and are meant to promote football at ward level.
“We want to host a competitive tournament later this year that would involve teams from the two area zones and we want the matches on Sunday to set the tone for the competition. As you are aware area zones used to play against each other through select sides such as Red Army for Bulawayo, Yellow Peril for Harare, Blue Bombers for Mutare and Golden Stars for Gweru, so we feel it is time we revive the interaction,” he said.
Mtungwazi said preparations for the 2017 season are ongoing with registration in progress. He urged teams to complete the affiliation process to ensure the league kicks off next week as planned.
