Bail for theft suspects

to their own use have appeared in court.
Vitalis Chisvo (32) and Jesinao Baker (29) – employed by Chop Chop Wholesalers – last week appeared before Mbare magistrate Mr Brighton Pabwe to answer to a charge of theft of trust property. Mr Pabwe remanded them out of custody to March 28 on US$100 bail each.
Prosecutor Mr Phineas Yaso had opposed bail arguing that the duo was facing a serious charge.
However, their lawyer Mr Steady Kachere told the court that his clients were suitable bail candidates.
He said they were dismissed from work and the allegations were raised weeks after they had left.
It is the State’s case that between April 2009 and February this year, Chisvo and Baker were employed as manager and cashier respectively. The State further alleges that during that period, Chisvo and Baker received 400 tankers of opaque beer from Chibuku breweries. It is alleged they only recorded 389 tankers and converted 11, worth US$36 938,50, to their own use. – CR.
