WHAWHA have confirmed their leading forward, Jayden Bakare, will stay up to the end of the season despite links to giants Highlanders.
The 19-year-old sensation has netted eight times to attract the attention of the league’s traditional giants, Dynamos and Highlanders.
Several reports had suggested the Zimbabwe Prisons Correctional Service’s rookie had joined Bosso last week.
The deal is believed to have fallen through after Bosso failed to meet Bakare’s demands.
The forward featured in Whawha’s 1-2 loss to CAPS United at Ascot at the weekend.
Whawha coach, Luke Petros, underlined the importance of keeping Bakare at Ascot in their survival fight.
“Highlanders engaged the club over the services of Bakare and, initially, the boy didn’t want to leave,” said Petros.
“But, it was difficult for him to say no to a club like Bosso.
“I can’t comment much on what happened afterwards.
“All I know is Bakare is here with us until the end of the season.
“I’m also happy that the boy has shown his commitment to the club despite interest from several clubs.
“I salute his determination to help the club survive relegation.”
Whawha are in the drop-zone and four points away from safety.
They have managed 19 points in 23 fixtures.
Petros hinted they were on the verge of completing a few signings.
“It’s unfortunate that we can’t divulge the names of the players without finalising the procedures,” he said.
“We have improved a lot compared to how we started the season.
“We have shown great potential and we now need to complete those signings and see where they take us.
“I believe we now have what it takes to survive relegation.
“We just need to be consistent and have a bit of luck.”
