BAKERS Inn are happy with their partnership with the Bulawayo secondary schools, a union that has seen two athletes attain US scholarships.
This was revealed by Bakers Inn general manager Amos Phiri at a farewell party on Thursday for Esnart Ndlovu who leaves for the US tomorrow. The other athlete Alpha Mpofu will also represent Zimbabwe at the World Junior Athletics Championships in Peru at the end of the month.
“As a brand Bakers Inn, we have found the union to be of immense benefit. We have found out that the Bulawayo community has supported us, we have come out with a clean up competition which Bulawayo has also supported immensely. If we look at our journey now, we look at where we came from, where we are, now we have two kids, one who is qualified for a World Championship and one who has got an international scholarship,” said Phiri.
Phiri said they were happy to associate with athletics. Bakers Inn sponsored the Bulawayo Province National Association of Secondary School Heads cluster and inter district track and field championships.
They even sponsored the team’s transport, food and accommodation for the national finals in Victoria Falls.
“We are proud of being able to partner with the national association of school heads in Bulawayo,” said Phiri.
He assured Bulawayo that they are still around as partners.
“The question that people always have for us is, what does the future hold? We are committed beyond this season. We have been partnering with Nash. In some cases, we have covered transport, and in some cases, we have covered registration fees and sustenance here and there when it is required. So we do look back on this sponsorship and partnership arrangement, we could not have asked for better. We thank Bulawayo we thank Nash, we applaud the athletes, for us, they are the people who decide on purchasing our brand,” said Phiri.
He said schoolchildren are the ones sent to shops and decide which loaf of bread to buy. He said they will always be grateful to them for the support.
Bulawayo Province head in charge of athletics, Sikhumbuzo Ndlovu said: “We are very excited as Bulawayo Metropolitan Province to see two of our athletes whom we groomed going overseas to explore the world.”
He said the partnership had paid dividends and that they are looking forward to the future with the partnership.
