A 33-year-old salesman employed by Lobels Bakery in Bulawayo appeared in court yesterday for allegedly diverting 8 964 loaves of bread worth $8 000, which he was supposed to deliver at 1.2 Battalion Barracks in Hwange, before forging a credit sale invoice to conceal the alleged offence.
Fanuel Dube, of House Number 30 Knobthorn Road in Thorngroove in Bulawayo pleaded not guilty to fraud and forgery charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Mr Witness Mtetwa. He was remanded to 9 July on $200 bail.
The prosecutor, Mr Malvern Nzombe, said between 9 January and 1 March, Dube took a delivery of 8 964 loaves of bread from his workplace in Belmont in Bulawayo and drove to Hwange where he was supposed to deliver the consignment to the ZNA 1.2 Battalion Barracks.
The court was told that instead of delivering the bread to the intended recipient, Dube would allegedly divert the bread to an unknown client.
In an effort to conceal the alleged offence, he completed a credit sale invoice and forged a signature purporting that the bread had been received by a Mr Chihanga of 1.2 Battalion Barracks.
Dube repeated the offence on 10 different occasions.
