Gweru introduces 50c parking discs

Midlands Correspondent
THE Gweru City Council has introduced new 50 cents parking discs, a move aimed at cushioning motorists who are failing to cope up with the $1 per hour discs. The council introduced the parking disc system early this month, resulting in an outcry from motorists who argued that  the $ 1 per hour parking disc, were not affordable. The move saw the majority of motorists being forced to avoid parking in the Central Business District with companies and other businesses in the CBD coming up with makeshift back yard parking bays.

A survey by Chronicle yesterday revealed that the    council workers were now selling 50 cents discs. Some council workers interviewed said they had been selling the 50 cents discs to motorists since Monday.
The other workers said the 50 cents disc was appreciated by motorists.

The Mayor, Councillor Tedious Chimombe said the council introduced the 50 cents discs following an outcry from motorists.
“As council, we took note of  the complaints which were raised by motorists and decided to introduce   50 cents discs for those who would want to park in the CBD for 30 minutes or less. We are cognisant of the plight of our residents and we realised that the flat $1 was beyond the reach of some,” he said.
