Balakasi eyes third golden boot gong on the trot

TINASHE Balakasi says he is targeting the Golden Boot on his return to the Castle Lager Premiership with debutants Simba Bhora.

Balakasi has been a 20-goal frontman in the Shamva side’s last two campaigns.

He shouldered the responsibility of taking them into the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League after netting 25 times.

The gangly forward continued with his ruthlessness, scoring a record-breaking 29 goals, to power his team into the top-flight league.

It means in the past two seasons of his career, he has won the Golden Boot and the championship and it remains to be seen if this will be repeated in the Big Boys’ League.

But, Balakasi is not new in the Castle Lager Premiership.

He had forgettable stints with CAPS United, Harare City and Mushowani Stars.

Simba Bhora also added FC Platinum’s Onifade AbuBukar and Alexander Mandinyenya from Harare City in their offensive unit.

Balakasi, who is also the team’s fan favourite, said he has his eyes on the Golden Boot award.

“We have been preparing well and I’m happy with what I have contributed to this project. The team is still growing and it needs people who are willing to put in 100 percent effort whenever they get the chance to represent the team.

“It might be too early to say much but I will be lying if I’m to tell you that I’m not interested in winning the strikers’ best prize because it’s every striker’s wish to take that accolade home at the end of the season,” said Balakasi

A club official also confirmed that they have completed the signing of veteran midfielder Tichaona Chipunza.

He also revealed that two Ghanaians, a goalie and a defender, are trying their luck at the club.  Simba Bhora have retained Simba Chinani and Leroy Madziro in their goalkeeping department.

The official also confirmed that the club will be using National Sports Stadium for their home fixtures until the completion of Wadzanai.

They are set to host champions FC Platinum on Saturday.
