THE curtains came down on the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League over the weekend.
It was a huge relief for the Banket community after their beloved club survived relegation on the last day of the season.
The perennial fighters salvaged a 3-2 victory over Golden Eagles.
The win saw them making a huge climb to occupy 12th position on the league table.
Banket United director, Gladman “Dallas” Sekawawana, promised a better show next season.
“It was a great moment for everyone who is associated with the team.
“We can’t even imagine how Banket was going to be next season, without competitive football in the town.
“We are delighted that the boys did their best to secure our spot for the next campaign,” said Sekawawana.
He added:
“We want to thank our fans for coming in numbers to support the team.
“It was not a good season for us but we are going to put together all the resources to avoid a repeat of what we went through this season.”
It was all joy in Mashonaland West as Karoi United beat champions Simba Bhora.
It was all smiles in the tobacco farming town after Simba Bhora lost 1-0 to Levison Solus’s spirited side.
Simba Bhora will be in the top-flight league next season.
The fate of the league’s basement teams will be decided through the play-offs.
Chinhoyi Stars also put to an end Ngezi Under-19’s lengthy unbeaten streak with a 2-0 win.
Harare City Cubs produced the shocker of the weekend to deny Black Mambas a top four spot.
The match ended 1-0 in favour of the Cubs at Rufaro.
Herentals Under-20 finished on a high following a 2-0 victory over PAM FC.
Before this fixture, three points were deducted from the Young Students for using an ineligible player against Come Again.
All the attention is now on the Axis Solutions Super8 final.
Golden Eagles and Simba Bhora are the finalists. The venue and the date will be confirmed in due course.
