Bantu Rovers stare relegation after Caps hold them to draw

IT seems only God can save Bantu Rovers from relegation this season. The struggling Bulawayo side dropped two important points against Caps United in a match that ended in a dull stalemate at Hartsfield Stadium yesterday. Bantu Rovers could not make much of the numerical supremacy they enjoyed after the visitors lost Stephen Makatuka in the 37th minute. The decision appeared too harsh as the Caps defender did not seem to have kicked his opponent deliberately but it was the foot going loose after missing the ball ending on Leneance Mpofu’s chin. The pacy Mpofu was treated for over five minutes as he bled from the mouth.

Even against a wounded Caps United side, Bantu failed to take advantage of the situation and punish the visitors whose arrival in the city had looked in doubt.

Methembe Ndlovu, the Bantu Rovers coach admitted that the team did not play well.
“We did not play very well today, we failed to take control of the tempo of the game even they were having a man down,” said Ndlovu
Bantu Rovers had a lot of chances that could have got them the much needed three points but all went to waste after Mpofu’s low drive at goal was denied by Caps goalie Tafadzwa Dube in the 11th minute.  In the 19th minute Caps had the chance to open the scoring but Kelvin Bulaji missed a perfect opportunity to punish Bantu in the penalty box.

Another opportunity in the first half for the visitors was in the 26th minute when left winger Ronald Pfumbidzai beat Bantu goalkeeper Takunda Mukunda and crossed to Moses Muchenje who failed to direct his header on target.

The second half was another big yawn.
