BAOBAB Rovers have stolen the limelight in the Zifa Matabeleland North Division Two League to lead the pack as the race entered its seventh week last weekend.
While Makomo FC made their intentions of playing in Division One next year known to all before the season kicked off, the power generators have been quietly doing their business on the field of play to garner 17 points from seven outings.
Of note is Baobab’s record breaking 11-0 drubbing of Brazil over a fortnight ago to send a clear message of intent to other contenders for glory at the end of the season.
The team showed true title credentials in a 0-0 draw with Victoria Falls-based Amagagasi, another championship hopeful in an explosive match played at Megawatt Stadium on Saturday. They are on top by virtue of a superior goal difference over Makomo FC who are breathing hot on Baobab’s neck.
Makomo powered to a 2-0 victory last Saturday over Iwisa who are slowly losing their grip after a bright start.
Lloyd Chimuchenga grabbed a brace at Old Stadium to leave the Tafi Nengasha-coached lads stunned in front of their home fans.
Third placed Amagagasi have a huge opportunity to leapfrog Baobab Rovers when they host Prison Eagles in the resort town tomorrow while fourth placed Victoria Falls Tigers also have a chance to stay within shouting distance in another rescheduled clash with ZRP Hwange on Thursday again in Victoria Falls.
In other matches played on Saturday, ZRP Hwange thrashed Prison Eagles away from home with goals coming from Nhlalo Sibanda, Deznel Kutadza and Timothy Chuma.
Kamandama Celtic edged Zambezi Lions 2-1 at Madumabisa Stadium while Victoria Falls Tigers beat Fire FC 1-0 at Chinotimba Stadium.
Makwika based Brazil got a 3-0 whacking at the hands of army side Moto Moto with Shaibu Dimingu grabbing a brace with the other goal coming from Khonzani Nkomo.
Blackrock FC benefited from a walk-over against Rufaro Rovers on the same day with unconfirmed reports filtering in that Rufaro have been shown the exit door over-non payment of registration fees.
On Sunday, Classic Luyando thumped Broncos 4-1 with Lucky Ndlovu grabbing two goals with Reuben Ncube and Patrick Chitambwe chipping in with a goal apiece.
Hamlin Mulungu grabbed the face saver for hapless Broncos.
