A BARREN woman from Binga tried to save her marriage by “pimping” her sister’s ten-year-old daughter to her husband which led to the man to allegedly rape the child on several occasions.
The woman who is facing charges of facilitating rape, appeared recently before Binga magistrate, Victor Mpofu. Her husband who is facing rape charges went into hiding and is yet to be arrested.
She was not asked to plead. The woman was remanded in custody until 7 October when she would appear before a regional magistrate at Hwange magistrates court for the kick-off of her trial.
Allegations against the 49-year-old woman are that sometime in 2018, she took her sister’s 10-year-old daughter to her marital home in Gwanda.
The accused promised the mother of the child that she would pay for her schooling. In October 2018, the woman left her husband and her sister’s daughter staying in the same room and headed to Binga for private business.

The complainant never went to school. After that, she questioned her aunt’s husband who revealed to her that his wife married her off to him so that she would bear children for him since her aunt was barren.
The man allegedly sexually attacked her several times from early October 2018 until the end of November of the same year.
When the aunt of the victim returned at the end of November, her husband still sexually attacked the child during the night in her presence.
The court heard that after every sexual encounter, the man would give the minor a red concoction to drink. At times, the man would threaten to kill her if she refused to have sex with him.
The complainant made several attempts to flee, but she was caught and bashed. Eventually, the girl managed to escape and travelled to Binga where upon arrival she informed her parents who allegedly swept the matter under the carpet. The girl then reported the ordeal to the police, leading to the arrest of her aunt.
