Chamembe — a movement led by veteran producer Take Fizzo, successfully dropped an 11-track album last week titled Chamembe Zvekare.
The album, which celebrates two decades of the movement’s existence and influence in the local music scene featured a number of creatives including Urban grooves legends such as Mafrique, Cindy Munyavi, David Chifunyise, Roki, 3rinity as well as Leonard Mapfumo.
In a bid to bring about a new feel and vibe, the album production attracted a number of new age talents like Bryan K, Pash Sax and Vito, among others.
Bulawayo’s multi-award-winning hip-hop maestro Asaph as well as singer and actress Lee McHoney also made it into the album.
The mastermind of the project producer Take Fizzo — a celebrated music figure who celebrates a silver jubilee in the music industry — described the album as a journey throughout the past years.
“The album is a journey through the years merging the old sounds and new sounds while staying rooted to the unique identity that made our music outstanding.
“It is a celebration of a milestone and bringing back the refined sound that became a soundtrack for so many lives. Just like yesteryear, we did it again, its Chamhembe Zvekare,” said Take Fizzo.
With its successful launch, Take Fizzo is certain that the master stroke album will take over the airwaves.
Asaph who grew up listening to most of Chamhembe productions said it was an honour to be part of the project.
“While growing up these guys gave us classic music that made one sit down and enjoy listening to the radio. I remember most of their productions were dominating the airwaves and earning top spots on different radio charts like Power FM’s top 40.
“Now that I have grown up, I feel privileged to be associated with Chamhembe and be part of this production because they are some of the guys who inspired me musically,” said Asaph.
The Chamhembe movement burst onto the scene in 2005 with Chamhembe Volume 1, the follow up Chamhembe Plus came in 2006.
Take Fizzo describes Chamhembe as a hustle that came to life as a result of young people who had a dream and shared their gifts with the world.
He said it is a tribe of game changers which produced some of the most talented artistes of our generation in Zimbabwe.
“It is a recording stable that gives artistes a chance to shine,” he said.
