THE five-match One Day International cricket (ODI) series between Zimbabwe and the United States of America pencilled in for later this month is set to take place in Harare, Zimpapers Sports Hub can reveal.

Last week, USA Cricket announced the tour dates, however, there were no venues confirmed. It has since been confirmed that all matches, will once again, be played in Harare. The series is scheduled for October 17 to 28.

Both teams are yet to announce their squads for the series. Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) is likely to name their final team after the completion of regional matches, which are also scheduled for Harare, starting on October 7.

The Southerns and the Northerns are expected to play three one-day games, which will also serve as preparation for the series.

USA women have only played two international 50-over matches since they gained ODI status in 2022.

The USA team will be looking to build on the momentum from the ODI series earlier this year in the UAE against Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Scotland.

They, however, lost the two matches they played against Scotland (41 runs) and PNG (six wickets). The forthcoming tour will mark USA’s second visit to Zimbabwe with the first being during the 2021 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier which, however, ended prematurely due to Covid-19.

The Lady Chevrons and the USA have faced each other twice in 50-over cricket with both teams winning once. However, the two games were not considered international matches at that time as the USA was still yet to gain ODI status.

It was in 2011 that the USA pulled off a memorable victory against Zimbabwe in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Bangladesh. Ten years later, the Lady Chevrons would get their revenge in a World Cup Qualifier match in Zimbabwe.

The qualification match is the last game to have been played between the two nations to date.

Meanwhile, the 2024 /25 Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association (BMCA) Second League is set to get underway this weekend with the first league roaring to life a week later, fixtures secretary, Tendai Musasa, has confirmed.

Tuskers is hosting a two-day game hence the postponement of the First League as most of the league’s players will be taking part.

The teams that will be competing in the second league are Dingani Bookshop Cricket Club, Wholesale Beef Bulls, Queens Cricket Club 2, Nketa Cricket Club, Champions Cricket Club (pending confirmation), ZRP (pending confirmation) and Bulawayo Athletic Club 3 (pending confirmation).

Five teams have been confirmed for the first league and they are Amakhosi Cricket Club 1&2, BAC 1&2 and Queens Cricket Club 1. — @brandon_malvin
