A MUTARE man has turned his wife into a punching bag after being denied his conjugal rights due to the woman’s continuous bleeding.
Tsverukai Mushango had bruises all over her face when she appeared in court last week.
Her face was also swollen due to her husband’s constant bashing.
Steward Macheka was hauled before the court facing domestic violence charges after bashing Mushango.
Macheka appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Perseverance Makala.
Ms Joyce Tinarwo prosecuted.
Macheka pleaded guilty to the charge and said there was a heated exchange of words between him and his wife, resulting in him assaulting her.
“We exchanged harsh words. She has been constantly bleeding for some time now. I do not know the cause of this ailment that is troubling my wife.
“All I wanted to know was the cause of her ailment and see how we can solve the matter, but we ended up fighting. I assaulted her badly.
“I ask for her forgiveness for my reckless behaviour. I ought to be a better and supportive husband,” he said.
However, Mushonga vowed never to forgive her husband, saying her ailment is not of her own making.
Prosecuting, Ms Tinarwo said: “On June 27, in the NHB section of Sakubva, Macheka unlawfully committed an act of domestic violence by assaulting his wife with fists several times, resulting in her sustaining injuries.”
Ms Makala sentenced Macheka to five months imprisonment, with two months being suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The other three months were suspended on condition that he completes 105 hours of community service at Dangare Primary School.
