AN Odzi widow who decided to move on and marry another man is lucky to be alive after her late hubby’s brothers assaulted her for ‘betraying’ them.

The brothers — Tapiwa and Kudakwashe Rupiyo — were not comfortable with Lizzy Gowero’s decision to settle with a new lover at their late brother’s homestead and bashed her.

The two were this week ordered to pay fines of $7 000 each or spend two months in prison by Mutare magistrate, Ms Audrey Muzhingi, after being convicted of assault charges.

The court heard that on January 16, Gowero and the two accused persons had a misunderstanding over the complainant’s second marriage as she is still staying at her marital home.

The two accused persons                     assaulted Gowero with logs all over the body, resulting in her sustaining injuries.

She reported the matter to the police, thereby leading to the duo’s arrest.
