BASKETBALL Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) has unveiled the full list of candidates set to contest for top leadership positions when the national elections take place in Gweru on November 25.

The polls are expected to usher in a new executive team tasked with steering the game’s development at a critical stage for Zimbabwean basketball.

Outgoing president Joe Mujuru confirmed the candidates and urged stakeholders to take the process seriously.

“I am confident that the candidates who have come forward bring a wealth of experience and passion for basketball. I urge all stakeholders to participate actively in the elections to ensure that the sport continues to grow and prosper in Zimbabwe,” said Mujuru.

The race for the presidency will see Lawrance Taurai Chitsinde, Sikhumbuzo Ndlovu, David Pick, and Johnson Shumba battle for the top seat.

For the secretary’s post, Brighton Ncube, Tonderayi Sengai, and Ignatius Yesaya are in the running to oversee the union’s administrative affairs.

The Commission for Women and Youth Basketball will have Rumbidzai Chari and Theresa Manuel going head to head in a contest that focuses on promoting and empowering women and youth in the sport.

The Athletes Commission presidency has drawn Makomborero Bvudzawabaya, Nhlanhla Ndlovu, and Masimba Hondoyedzomba, all representing the interests of active and former players.

Some positions have already been confirmed as uncontested. Tonderayi Shasha will head the Technical Commission, while Francis Dube assumes the Commission for Competitions role. Brighton Ncube, who is also contesting for the secretary’s post, has been confirmed as treasurer without a challenger.
