Bastian charged

LONDON. — Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association (FA) after clashing with West Ham United’s Winston Reid.

The German international caught the Hammers centre-back in the face with his left arm as they jostled before a free-kick in the 40th minute of Saturday’s goalless English Premier League draw.

Schweinsteiger will be banned for three games if found guilty and has until 2pm tomorrow to respond to the charge.

And Schweinsteiger will contest his FA violent conduct charge for an alleged elbow on West Ham defender Reid, PA understands.

Schweinsteiger appeared to stick out his left arm and catch Reid in the throat as both players jostled for position in the build-up to a first-half free-kick during Saturday’s goalless draw at Old Trafford. — Reuters.
