Mountaineers in their first game of the season and also lost by five runs in the Twenty20 game to the same side.
The Bulawayo-based cricket outfit goes into today’s game smarting from a four-wicket Twenty20 loss against Southern Rocks.
Tuskers beat Southern Rocks in the Pro-50 One-Day game by nine runs but their assistant coach Pollock Mubhobho believes that they can win if they improve on their batting.
“We have a potential of doing better but our main concern right now is on our batting attack which has not been great. If our batsmen come to the party, I believe we can win matches. In all the matches which we have played, batting let us down,” said Mubhobho.
He said the only change in the squad was the coming in of all-rounder Sean Ervine who made the trip at the expense of injured Sean Williams.
Williams picked up an injury in Masvingo at the weekend where he was the second best scoring batsmen with 33 runs. Keegan Meth made the most runs for Tuskers in the One-Day game managing 36.
It is highly likely that Terrence Duffin and Brian Chari will be Tuskers’ opening batsmen with Ervine coming in at number three.
Craig Ervine, Charles “Chopper” Coventry, Keith Dabengwa and Meth are also expected to lead Tuskers’ batting attack. Mubhobho commended the bowlers for doing a great job.
“The bowlers have been fantastic and right now they only need the batting attack to complement their efforts. It’s not that we do not have good batsmen, I think our biggest undoing has been making silly mistakes when batting.
“We have been working hard on improving our batting and the players understand the importance of winning and I believe we will get it right against Eagles because our target is to go for all the silverware on offer,” said Mubhobho.
Eagles who lost their One-Day game by four wickets to MidWest Rhinos at the weekend has assembled one of the strongest sides in the league with Regis Chakabva, Chamu Chibhabha, Sikandar Raza and Stewart Matsikenyeri expected to lead their batting attack.
They also have national team all-rounder Forster Mutizwa, Elton Chigumbura, national team pace bowler Kyle Jarvis and veteran spinner Raymond Price in their books capable of inflicting injury on Tuskers.
