Hundreds of friends, relatives, family and colleagues gathered at St George’s School where speaker after speaker spoke highly of the deceased before his body was taken for a private burial. The former Zimbabwe, Gloucester and Northamptonshire all-rounder collapsed and died while jogging in Mutare last Wednesday.
His former teammate in the national team Andy Pycroft said Curran was a man who persevered and never settled for less. “I knew ‘KC’ as a hardworking competitive, patient, confident and instrumental man throughout.
He had self belief, was so resilient, a fine father who had a strong bond with his family and friends. I enjoyed everything we had together, the practice and how he handled challenges. I say gone too soon. Till we meet again,” Pycroft said.
Zimbabwe Cricket president Peter Chingoka said he still could not come to terms with the early departure of a man who helped build the face of Zimbabwe cricket.
“I cannot come to terms with the untimely death of a colleague. He was a sportsperson par excellence who enjoyed most sports, from tennis, rugby and cricket. He showed his loyalty and dedication to the sport was unlimited and would stand with his judging.
He served the nation with passion until his retirement after a two decades of serving.”
Ozias Bvute, the former Zimbabwe Cricket general manager, said he felt sorry for the family left by the great cricket ambassador.
“We say goodbye to an ambassador, a champion of discipline, a man with an unwavering support for the sport. He was a mentor, colleague and a friend who had strength in winning and had a never-say-die attitude. He managed to bring the attitude in the Mash Eagles who have managed to keep the character until now.
“I can say he was a man who was so blessed as he managed to search for purpose and meaning early in his life. He stood by Zimbabwe Cricket when everyone was jumping ship. He also brought the fighting spirit in the national team. He had one goal, which was to make cricket great in the country. May his legacy live forever in cricket. Rest in peace my friend,” said Bvute.
