A NYANGA man allegedly fatally assaulted his colleague with a burning log after he refused to vacate the braaing area he was occupying to warm himself up.

Costa Mumharu (32) struck Cod Makunya (47) several times on the head with the log.

Makunya was pronounced dead on arrival at Regina Coeli Mission Hospital.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the incident which happened at Nyamhanda Business Centre in Chief Saunyama’s area.

It is understood that Mumharu and Makunya were warming themselves up at a braai stand at the business centre when Mumharu indicated that the fire was no longer adequate to warm the two of them.

He instructed Makunya to leave.

However, Makunya resisted and a fight ensued.

“Mumharu grabbed a burning log from the braai stand and struck Makunya with it several times on the head,” narrated Insp Muzondo.

“Nyasha Matyebere, who was in one of the rooms at the bar, heard the commotion and peeped through the window. She saw Mumharu assaulting Makunya.

“Nyasha alerted Edith Muganhu who was sleeping in the other room. The two went outside and Mumharu fled from the scene.

“Makunya was rushed to Regina Coeli Mission Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” said Inspector Muzondo.
