Battle over deceased estate

A HARARE man yesterday sought a peace order against his stepsister, accusing her of barring him from his late father’s house in Rusape.

Tarwirei Takawira said his stepsister, Phillis Watyoka, also locked the tenants outside the house.

“She comes to my father’s house and locks the tenants outside.

“I called her and she warned me not to visit my father’s house to check,” said Tarwirei.

Phillis disputed his testimony, saying her late mother was the owner of the house, and not Tarwirei’s father.

“My mother was having an affair with his father and before she died, I bought a residential stand for her.

“And, Tarwirei’s father followed her and he later died at my mother’s place,” said Phillis.

She added that after her mother’s death, Tarwirei’s family started claiming the house.

Magistrate Nyasha Marufu dismissed the application telling the duo to go and register the estate in order to determine who will own it.
