THE 52-year-old man, who was bashed after he was caught allegedly raping a Grade Six student, has been hauled to court.
Glen Norah residents meted instant justice on Peter Sithole from Epworth after apprehending him raping the girl.
The girl went to him to inquire about the price of rat poison he was selling.
A number of residents from the neighbourhood were in attendance at court following proceedings in solidarity with the young girl and her family.
Sithole was not asked to plead when he appeared before regional magistrate Stanford Mambanje, who remanded him in custody to July 20 pending finalisation of investigations.
He indicated that he wishes to engage the services of a lawyer to assist him apply for bail at the High Court as he is facing a third schedule offence.
The circumstances are that on Saturday, at around 11am, Sithole was selling rat poison when the minor child called him and asked how much it was.
He told her the price and then asked for vaseline from the girl.
The girl went to get the vaseline from the bedroom and Sithole followed her and raped her.
The maid, Memory Pindeni, found Sithole in the room raping the child. She alerted neighbours who confronted and thoroughly bashed him before calling the police.
The girl was medically examined.
