Veteran playwright and arts administrator has heaped praise and given flowers to cinematographer Rasquesity of Keaitse Films, as he said the filmmaker is a great collaborator who can be trusted and deserves to be honoured.
Rasquesity has collaborated with Baya on numerous productions, including Umhlolo Wase Zhwane, Velile, Sometime in November, Ihlazo, Amacala, Foul Play, Mlamu Wami, and Choices.
Baya, who wrote and directed most of these productions, said Rasquesity’s work ethic cannot be matched.
“Collaborations should not be for the sake of collaborations. One has to collaborate with people who bring value to you or your work. We must collaborate with people who recognise the value in the work that we do together.
“In recent years, I have worked with Rasquesity because he is one young man I can trust. I can go to sleep and leave him with the project, and it will come out perfect.
“This young man’s work ethic, enthusiasm for work, and professionalism are the stuff to dream of. He is one of my collaborators, whom I enjoy working with because he is grounded. He deserves recognition because his talent is unmatched,” said Baya.
Rasquesity said being recognised by Baya is one of the greatest honours of his career. He expressed gratitude for the kind words from Baya, describing him as an inspiring mentor and a rare creative who uplifts others.
“It’s a privilege to be showered with kind words from someone like Baya. These are the people we’ve always looked up to in the arts industry. For him to recognise and respect the work that I do is a huge win for me,” said Rasquesity.
He added that working alongside the celebrated theatre practitioner has been both humbling and empowering.
“Every time I work with him, Baya is open to corrections and willing to learn from young creatives like me. He’s the great father figure I never had, and I will always cherish and enjoy working with him because he is a genius who doesn’t discriminate.”
