THE Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) has opened applications for temporary free-to-air religious community radio broadcasting licenses in Bulawayo, Harare and Masvingo to enhance community broadcasting nationwide.
In a public notice, BAZ said the invitation follows the allocation of relevant frequencies under General Notice 894 of 2026.
The authority said the licensing exercise forms part of ongoing trials aimed at expanding community broadcasting services.
“It is hereby notified that, having allocated the relevant frequencies in terms of General Notice 894 of 2026, the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe is inviting applications for licences to provide Temporary Free-to-air Religious Community Radio Broadcasting Service licences in the areas provided… ,” reads part of the notice.
“This invitation is being extended as part of the trials being conducted by the Authority in the licensing of communities of interest.”
According to the schedule, BAZ will issue three licences, one each for Bulawayo, Harare and Masvingo.
The licences will be valid for a period of five years.
BAZ has set 4 September as the deadline for the submission of applications.
The latest invitation comes as the broadcasting regulator continues to widen access to broadcasting services through the licensing of community broadcasters, a move aimed at enhancing diversity, promoting local content and giving communities platforms to address issues of local interest.
