THE Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) league is appealing for funds to cater for its team that will take part in the interprovincial tournament to be held in Masvingo from March 26-27.
BBA president Opportunity Moyo said they want to send an 80-member team that would include Under 18 boys and girls and senior men and women.
“We are going to field a team of about 80 players and would want to have all age group teams present but we’ve no funds to cater for the large number of people. We’re in need of assistance so that we give the players the exposure they need to improve their game,” said Moyo.
She urged players to take practice sessions seriously as provincial coaches were going to be chosen to start the selection process.
“We’re hoping games will heat up in the coming weeks with players trying to showcase talent to be selected into the team. We’re going to witness a change in performance as players try to impress with skills and control of the game,” Moyo said.
She added that coaches would enlist potential players who would undergo an intense training program to prepare for the tournament.
Meanwhile, BBA will tomorrow hold a life skills session that seeks to empower youths with decision making skills.
BBA fixtures secretary Charmaine Chirinda said they were targeting to equip youths with ways to plan for their future.
“Most of the youths are just idle with no way forward. We’re hoping to enlighten them on what they can do after school and plan ahead wisely,” said Chirinda.
The life skills workshop will be facilitated by personnel from Youth.com at the Bulawayo Club for the Disabled (BCD).
After the workshop league matches will resume.
