B’ball fraternity honours legendary figure DeWolf

LEGENDARY sports coach, Ted DeWolf’s efforts in talent development have not gone unnoticed after being conferred with an Honorary Life Presidency Award recently.

The emotional ceremony took place at Mutare Boys’ High School, drawing players, coaches, alumni, officials, and community leaders.

Basketball union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) also bestowed the BUZ Honorary Life Member Award to DeWolf, cementing his legacy in the national basketball fraternity.

MBA publicist, Munashe Chifamba, said: “This is a befitting honour to a man who has sacrificed so much just to develop talent. For over 30 years, Ted DeWolf has nurtured talent, uplifted communities, and built a foundation for basketball excellence in Manicaland. This honour is, not just for his past contributions, but a celebration of his enduring legacy.”

DeWolf, who coached both provincial and national teams during his active years, expressed his gratitude.

DeWolf said: “This recognition is deeply humbling. Basketball has always been a passion and a family to me. I am proud to have been part of this journey.”

Meanwhile, Manicaland Basketball Association MatchDay Six results played at Mutare Boys’ High saw Saints biting the dust against Pacers in a match that ended in a 55-58 scoreline.

Sakubva Hurricanes dismissed Sixers 82-50.

Dangamvura Knights were on the receiving end against Mercenaries 54-65.

In their Mutare developmental tournament played recently at the same venue, boys Under-14 Pool A results saw Baring Primary outplaying Chikanga Stars 32-2 and Chikanga Stars went to suffer yet another 9-25 heavy defeat against Dangamvura Knights.

In a tightly contested encounter, Hoopers Academy edged Baring Primary 8-7, while Dangamvura Knights Academy beat Hoopers Academy 12-10.

Tournament punching bags, Chikanga Stars were in yet another 6-20 defeat against Hoopers Academy.

Dangamvura Knights Academy beat Baring Primary 8-4.

In Pool B, Rangers beat Sables 15-10, while Rusape Mastungs outplayed Rangers Juveniles to a 19-4 result.

Dominant Rusape Mastungs beat Sables 21-6

In the end, it was Rusape Mastungs that attained pole position, while Rangers Juvinale came second, and Hoopers Academy were third.

Dangamvura Knights Academy were fourth, while Baring Primary ended on fifth position.

Sables and Chikanga Stars were sixth and seventh, respectively.

The most valuable player award went to Malvin Chiwetu of Rusape Mastungs.

In the girls Under-17 competition, Rangers beat Patriots 14-11, while Patriots dismissed Dangamvura Knights Academy 8-2.

Rangers went on to beat Dangamvura Knights 8-4.

Consequently, Rangers came first, while Patriots settled for second position. Dangamvura Knights were third.

For the boys Under-17 competition, Pool A matches saw Patriots winning 32-21 against Rusape Mastungs and Rangers Juveniles won 24-31 against Sables.

Patriots beat Sables 20-9.

Rusape Mastungs were on the receiving end against, losing 24-28 against Rangers Juveniles.

Patriots beat Rangers 15-12.

Rusape Mustungs beat Sables 32-11.

In Pool B, Trojans Academy beat Mutare Academy 15-11, while Hoopers won 31-20 against Dangamvura Knights Academy.

Trojans went on win 21-7 against Dangamvura Knights Academy, while Hoopers also won again 29-14 against Mutare Academy.

Trojans Academy suffered a 11-37 against Hoopers Academy, while Mutare Academy lost 7-11 to Dangamvura Knights Academy.

Hoopers Academy were the champions, while Patriots Academy came second and Rangers Juveniles settled for third position.

Trojans Academy were fourth, while Rusape Mastungs were fifth.

Dangamvura Knights Academy were in sixth position.

Sables and Mutare Academy were seventh and eighth, respectively.

Most valuable player award was Givemore Chauke of Hoopers Academy.
