MUTARE Basketball fans had lots of fun at Mutare Boys High School last Saturday as they witnessed the clash of the city basketball giants during the fundraising basketball tournament. The event was organized by Praise Worship and Prayer (PWP) Ministries and Mutare Summer Fest committee led by Anne Ruthernburg. It was meant to raise money for a number of orphanage homes and street children in and around Mutare. This was the first time such an event was held and the organizing team promised to hold it annually from this year.
Teams that managed to take part in the tournament were namely Mercenaries, Saints, Dangamvura knights, Wolves, AU Panthers and Tigers with both ladies and men’s teams. The stiff competition on the men’s teams saw the Mercenaries grabbing the first position followed by the Saints and Dangamvura Knights on the second and third positions, respectively.
The Wolves ladies won against AU Panthers who settled for the second position, followed by the Tigers. It was indeed an open tournament for any team in and around the city. Bruce Muzawazi, one of the organizers said the event was very successful and he would like to thank everyone who contributed to its success.
“The event was very successful and on behalf of the team, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to its success. We shall continue to hold this event annually starting from this one,” said Muzawazi.
Mutare Basketball Association spokesperson, Taurai Dhliwayo, said the MBA managed to identify very talented youngsters during the fundraising tournament. “The tournament enabled us to identify very talented youngsters during the fundraising tournament. I would also like to apologize to all our fans for the change of our venue on the last minute,” he said.
