A Mutare woman approached the courts demanding maintenance from her husband whom she said disappears from home on pay days and returns a week later with nothing. Melody Ndara claimed $200 for the upkeep of their two children and herself from her husband Den Matsi. She said he was negligent and spent his money with girlfriends. On her breakdown, Melody told the court that she needed $40 for herself, $100 for food, $60 for clothing and $20 for medication.
Ndara said: “My husband is a builder and he has plenty of money. He earns about $400 per month but he gives us nothing. I need $200 for the upkeep of our children. What hurts Your Worship is that he disappears with his salary and spends the money with girlfriends. I am struggling to earn a living so making him pay maintenance is the only way I can benefit from his salary.“
However, Matsi disputed the allegations and told the court that he supports his family.
“How can I pay maintenance to my wife I am staying with. This order will make her disrespect me somehow,” Matsi said.
Mrs Chigodora ordered Matsi to pay $50 effective from October 31, 2015 and instructed Ndara to bring documents that proves that Matsi earns $400.
