MINISTER of Sport, Arts and Culture, Andrew Langa has challenged the Bulawayo City Council and the community to fully utilise and maintain the facilities that have been renovated and built for the ongoing African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games. He was speaking at a civic reception organised by the city council on Saturday. “I’d like to exhort you members of the Bulawayo City Council and municipal employees to take good care of the facilities. They shouldn’t be turned into white elephants,” said Minister Langa.

He said the council should also support clubs that will sprout in the city as a result of these facilities.

“Our sincerest appreciation goes to his Excellency, President Mugabe for affording the people of Bulawayo this once-in-a-lifetime chance for remarkable infrastructural development,” he said.

Minister Langa said the Games did not only bring sport to the city but also created economic development and employment.

“Bulawayo will never be the same again. These Games have brought with them the chance for economic development and employment which is in line with our economic blue print, ZimAsset,” he said.
