BCC drags Zim Saints to court

SUSPENDED Division One outfit, Zimbabwe Saints Football Club, has been dragged to court by the Bulawayo City Council for failing to pay more than $45,000 in rates and water charges accrued over a period of five years. According to the summons issued at the Bulawayo High Court last week in which Zimbabwe Saints is the defendant, Bulawayo City Council is claiming $45,304.07 in total arrears of unpaid rates and water charges incurred by the defendant. The city council is the plaintiff in the matter.

“Plaintiff claims for payment of the sum of $45,304.07, the total arrears of rates and water charges incurred by the defendant in respect of Saints Grounds situated along Shetland Drive, Queenspark East in Bulawayo in the period from March 2009 to June 2014. Despite demands by the plaintiff, the defendant has refused to pay,” read the summons.

The city council is also seeking to charge an interest on the claim running from July 18, 2014.
“Payment of interest a temporae morae on the sum of $45,304.07 at the prescribed rate of interest from July 18, 2014 being the date of demand to the date of payment in full.”

Zimbabwe Saints has up to August 29 to enter a Notice of Appearance to defend the matter at the High Court. Bulawayo City Council is being represented by R Ndlovu and Company.
