BULAWAYO City Council has criticised a High Court ruling on water disconnections saying it was one of the major reasons why its consumers were no longer paying rates.
In May 2014, the High Court in Harare stopped all municipalities countrywide from disconnecting water supplies for defaulting residents without seeking recourse from the courts of law.
In his New Year message, Bulawayo Mayor, Councillor Martin Moyo, said the High Court ruling had negatively impacted the local authority’s revenue.
He added that consumers’ debt had increased by $12,8million from January to December last year.
