They were expected to arrive in Porto yesterday ahead of the technical meeting that was slated for last night and they will be guided by Viola Muchaoona who is their coach .
The actual competition starts today and will end on Sunday with countries from across the globe taking part.
Zimbabwe Volleyball Association president, Fredrick Ndlovu, said the event was an opportunity for the young players to learn.
“In my discussion with them, I told them that they have worked hard and now they are ranked among Africa’s best and that’s why they are representing Africa and not only Zimbabwe, so they have reached the highest stage of beach volleyball.
“They must not feel too much pressure, they have done well to reach that stage. They must just do their best, enjoy and learn.
“This is a stage we expect them to learn as much as possible because this is their first time.
“This is a period of learning and appreciating but in the future we won’t be talking of a learning curve,” said Ndlovu.
The two teams wrote their own piece of history when they became the first local sides in the discipline to qualify for a world event in April.
They finished second in the African Championships staged in Congo Brazzaville.
The young players will be hoping to raise the country’s flag high when they battle it out with some of the world’s best teams in the four-day-competition.
