SPOKEN Word and Writers Association (SWWA) has launched the beat verse culture riddim aimed at linking local poets and musicians.
The platform offers poets an opportunity to have their poetry professionally recorded over a beat to create a dynamic fusion of spoken word and music.
The riddim also seeks to join artists from various ethnic groups in Zimbabwe so as to document their history through a fusion of poetry and music.
SWWA president, Lennox Gondo, said the platform is also aimed at exposing new talent and to raise awareness on the need to prioritise poetry in the arts sector.
“All artists, including new ones, are encouraged to register and we welcome their diverse backgrounds and experiences that they will bring to the project.
“Once the project is completed, it will be showcased at the Pop Culture Explosion set for this year in August.
“This is also a platform to call for the prioritisation of the poetry industry in Zimbabwe as, over the last two years, it has shown great strides in its growth regardless of negativity from people as they deem it not lucrative enough in the arts sector.
“Therefore, we saw it fit to combine it with music so that they work hand-in-hand in showcasing the artistic diversity in the country.”
