Bulawayo City FC coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube has declared war on the four city-based Premier Soccer League teams ahead of their maiden appearance in the elite league next year.
Ncube made the bold declaration at Bulawayo City’s end of year awards ceremony at the Small City Hall last Friday.
Responding to the club’s board of directors’ chairperson Siboniso Khumalo’s sentiments that Bulawayo City was not going to disturb the PSL status quo, but was merely coming on a complementary role, Ncube said there was totally no friendship and they were coming in to get all the points.
“Akuzwanwana lutho la,” said Ncube.
The former Coach of the Year with the now defunct Njube Sundowns said City were coming into the PSL to get all 24 points at stake from fellow Bulawayo-based teams.
“If we lose all the games we play against Bulawayo teams, we would have lost 24 points and that’s a recipe for relegation, so those who think we’ll be generous must forget,” said Ncube.
Bulawayo City will begin their pre-season preparations in earnest on January 5, according to club chairman Jerry Sibanda.
He said they were already in serious talks with their targeted players whom he declined to name saying it might jeopardise their negotiations.
“For now we’ll not name the players we are talking to because that might disturb our negotiations, but come January 5, those players will have joned us,” said Sibanda.
Besides acquisition of new players, Amakhosi, as City are known, are likely to add a new face in the technical team, although it is not yet known in what capacity the new man will be.
Ncube is assisted by former Highlanders’ player Farai Mujokoro.
