BOTSWANA-based football coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube has intensified his search for strikers, as he hopes to address his team’s scoring problems.
Ncube, who is in his first coaching job in Botswana, has seen his Nico United side score two goals in nine games. Heading into resumption of the league action after the festive season, his team was on position nine with 10 points from two wins, four draws and three defeats.
With the January transfer window opened, Ncube who was in the country for the festive break said he did not have a holiday as he moved around Bulawayo searching for strikers.
“I’m still looking for strikers. We’ve resumed training preparing for our home game on Sunday against Holy Ghost, but my major concern is getting at least two strikers. This is the area we need to beef up with urgency during the January transfer window,” Ncube said.
With a target of avoiding relegation, the Selibe-Phikwe based Nico United is home to two Zimbabwean players, ex-Caps United winger Kelvin Ndebele and forward Tinashe Chinyani formerly with Harare City.
Ncube wants his side to pick up from where they left as they went for the festive break in a celebratory mood after ending a seven-match winless run following a 1-0 away victory at Extension Gunners. After playing host to Holy Ghost this afternoon at Selebi-Phikwe Stadium, Ncube’s Nico United will travel away to face Mandla Mpofu-coached Masitaoka. — Follow on Twitter @ZililoR
