A NIGHT of beer and beats turned into a blood-soaked brawl at Manwele Beer Garden when a Bulawayo man allegedly teamed up with thugs to bash a fellow patron using bricks and a walking crutch.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), “a 41-year-old Bulawayo man, Tafadzwa Makombe, has been remanded in custody after appearing before the Tredgold Magistrates’ Court facing a robbery charge.”
The State alleges that on 29 October 2025, chaos erupted at the main gate of Manwele Beer Garden when Makombe and his crew pounced on Nkosi Moyo (47). They allegedly rained blows on him, using anything they could grab — even a walking stick turned into a weapon.
“The accused person and his accomplices assaulted Nkosi Moyo using bricks and a walking crutch before stealing his Vilion 40 cellphone and a wallet containing US$32,” reads the NPAZ statement.
The poor reveller walked away battered and bruised, with injuries to the head, mouth, chest, and back, while the suspects made off with property worth US$115. Nothing was recovered.
After a police report was filed, detectives moved swiftly and nabbed Makombe. His attempt to secure freedom hit a brick wall, literally and legally, when the magistrate denied him bail.
“He remains in custody after bail was denied and the matter was remanded to the 14th of November 2025,” confirmed the NPAZ.
The authority said : “The courts take a dim view of violent conduct, particularly where force is used to dispossess victims of their property. Robbery remains a serious offence, and offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.”
