BEITBRIDGE Municipality has started work to upgrade Dulivhadzimu Bus Terminus and the local authority is also putting modern advertising bus stop shelters.
In an interview, the town clerk, Mr Loud Ramakgapola said they entered into a partnership with Mudau Printers, a local company that specialises in large-scale print and digital advertising, to roll out the bus stop sheds. A model bus stop shelter has since been erected in the town centre.
He said the rank project is set to be completed within the next six months.
“Our town is growing and we need to modernise most of the infrastructure as we journey towards real transformation. So we have entered into a partnership with Mudau Printers to roll out more of these sheds,” said Mr Ramakgapola.
“The partner will recoup his money for the investment from those who will place their adverts on the bus stop sheds. In short, we are creating advertising space for those willing to market their businesses using this platform.”
Mr Ramakgapola said the completion of this project will help create designated pick-up and drop-off points for commuters and travellers passing through the border town.
“At the same time, it will also enhance our capacity to tame the traffic chaos that obtains on our roads during peak periods,” he said.
The local authority and Mudau Printers are in the process of identifying ideal sites from where the bus stop shelters would be erected.
Mr Ramakgapola said the town needed to continue modernising services in line with Vision 2030.
“Besides adding to the aesthetic of the town, the sheds will provide the necessary shelter for commuters considering the high temperatures in Beitbridge and even during the rainy season. On the Dulivhadzimu long-distance bus terminus, work slowed down when our tipper broke down, but we have engaged one land developer to assist us,” he said.
Over 60 intercity buses use the bus terminus daily.
