Beitbridge farmers get 44 tonnes of maize seed

farming season which is set to benefit more than 10 000 families.
Senator for Beitbridge Cde Tambudzani Mohadi handed over the inputs to residents in the district at Lutumba in Ward 5 on Saturday.
She said since Beitbridge was one of the livestock production areas, more farm implements including dipping and dosing among other chemicals will be delivered to the district in due course. She said President Mugabe had sourced the inputs to improve agriculture production in the country.

Cde Mohadi however, challenged the beneficiaries to work hard and shame detractors of the land reform programme.
“We should make good use of this seed for our agrarian reform to be a success story. The country’s economic recovery lies in increased agriculture production, which as a government we are striving to achieve and we urge all stakeholders to complement us in achieving this feat.

“You are all aware that we are located in agricultural natural region five where maize cannot do well under the current normal rainfall patterns.
“I urge all of you to prioritise the growing of small grains and venture into livestock production. As your political leaders in this area we are also calling on all village heads and traditional leaders to be at the forefront in assisting orphans and the vulnerable children and the elderly people in our communities lead a better life.”

She urged beneficiaries not to re-sale the inputs.
Senator Mohadi called on agriculture extension workers to double theirs efforts in providing technical knowledge to the community.

She however, warned Zanu-PF supporters to desist from any form of political violence during and after elections.
“We have adopted a zero tolerance to politically motivated violence as a country and as such we will not entertain any unruly elements in our society. The police are ready to deal with such criminals so be warned especially the youths who are gullible to the power of money.

“As a society we should learn to live in harmony and accept to see things in a different way.
“If you are a political party fanatic learn to convince people in joining your party rather than beating them to see things your way,” she said.
