Hundreds of communal farmers in Beitbridge are set to benefit from 115 tonnes of maize seed given to the district under the Presidential Inputs Scheme. District Administrator Mr Simon Muleya last week said they had already started distributing the seed to communal farmers at ward centres. There are 15 rural wards and six urban wards in the district.
Mr Muleya said the district had also been allocated 430 tonnes Compound D and 390 tonnes Ammonium Nitrate fertilisers, 15 tonnes sorghum, four tonnes pearl millet and two tonnes of rapoko.
He said the distribution was progressing well. Mr Muleya said Beitbridge Senator Cde Tambudzani Mohadi launched the Presidential Inputs Scheme at Lutumba Growth Point and Penemene Business Centre in the area.
He said the programme would immensely help farmers who were facing challenges in preparing for the farming season.
“We hope that we will have a successful farming season since these inputs have come at the earliest possible time. We are working together with traditional leaders in identifying the beneficiaries of the programme,” said Mr Muleya.
Adequate transport and manpower to conduct the programme had been mobilised.
