NATIONAL Social Security Authority’s 140-room Beitbridge Hotel which is being leased by Rainbow Tourism Group will be officially opened on September 18 this year following completion of all formalities by the authority. The date for the official opening was set at a meeting by the two permanent secretaries for Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Mr Ngoni Masoka and Tourism and Hospitality Industry permanent secretary Ms Florence Nhekairo met on Thursday last week.
NSSA general manager Mr James Matiza said that Ministers Nicholas Goche – Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare and Walter Mzembi- Tourism and Hospitality Industry may visit the hotel before the official opening date to “assure themselves that everything is in order”.
“The permanent secretaries will appraise the two ministers on the developments following their meeting on Thursday last week,” said Mr Matiza.
Mr Matiza said NSSA has completed all the requirements for the official opening of the hotel which is recording brisk business for RTG.
On the proposal to allow other business to use the hotel, Mr Matiza said RTG has indicated that it wants to use the entire hotel as it is doing well.
On Ekhuseleni Medical centre where the authority had an ownership wrangle with the Zimbabwe Health Care Trust, the NSSA general manager said the matter has been resolved.
“It was resolved that NSSA control the hospital 100 percent. The keys to that hospital have been handed over to NSSA and we are currently rehabilitating the hospital,” said Mr Matiza.
NSSA is rehabilitating the hospital to the tune of $800 000 after it had been closed for more than 10 years. He said the authority is focusing on the rehabilitation and will engage its tenant, the Zimbabwe Health Care Trust over the outstanding areas.
“Minister Goche on Friday last week paid a second visit to the hospital to monitor progress. Completion of the rehabilitation of the hospital is expected by September 15 this year,” said Mr Matiza.
ZHCT board of trustees is making efforts to deliver equipment for use at the hospital.
“The Minister urged the ZHCT to put in place mechanisms for the delivery of the equipment. Members of the trust have been made aware of the urgency of delivering the equipment to the hospital so that it can open before the end of the year,” said Mr Matiza.
