ZIMBABWE rugby coach Pieter Benade is brimming with belief as the Sables gear up for a bruising Africa Cup final against World Cup qualifying kings Namibia this afternoon in Kampala.
It’s all or nothing. One game. One ticket to the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
Namibia haven’t lost a World Cup qualifier in over 30 years, but Benade isn’t flinching.
“Namibia are tough. Historically, they’ve dominated us. But we’ve got a chance to do something special. It’s time to take something away from someone who’s had it for far too long,” declared the bullish coach.
This isn’t just another rugby clash. It’s a rematch soaked in emotion. Last year, the Sables shattered a 23-year losing streak by humbling Namibia 32–10 on their way to a historic Africa Cup triumph—their first in over a decade.
Now, the stakes are higher. Benade says this final is about more than silverware—it’s about national pride.
“These boys aren’t just playing for themselves. They’re carrying the hopes of millions. Making Zimbabwe proud again is what drives us,” he said.
Benade praised his squad for reaching a second straight Africa Cup final, saying the team has already achieved something remarkable—but the job isn’t done.
Zimbabwe made their World Cup debut in 1987 and returned in 1991. Since then, it’s been a long, painful wait.
Kick-off is at 3PM, and the showdown will be streamed live on Rugby Africa’s YouTube and Facebook platforms.
Can the Sables write a new chapter and bring down the giants? The nation holds its breath.
