verge of joining Jomo Cosmos were not entirely correct.
The striker was released by English side Portsmouth at the end of last season and has also ruled out a return home to play in the Zimbabwe Premier League.
“I am ready to retire from football if I do not manage to secure a contract with a Premier League team here (in South Africa),” Benjani told KickOff.com.
“I have been training with Jomo Cosmos, but I am not going to be signing a contract with them. Those were just rumours.
“I still attend some of the training sessions at Cosmos just to keep fit, but this is as far as it goes.
“The only team I have talked with is Bidvest Wits, but the talks did not amount to anything tangible. If I do not get any offers then I will call time on my career.”
Benjani is a free agent and it means his movement is not limited to the transfer window, which closes tomorrow.
Free agents like Benjani have better bargaining powers, because they can be signed outside the transfer window.
Meanwhile Takesure Chinyama is now eligible to make his debut at his new club, Orlando Pirates after receiving his international clearance yesterday.
The Warriors forward could play against Moroka Swallows at Orlando Stadium tomorrow.
According to Soccer Laduma, Pirates have finally reached an agreement with Dynamos over the payment of R600 000 for the player.
Yesterday, Chinyama told his club’s website that he was ready for the new challenge at the South African champions who also have ace forward Benni MaCarthy in the ranks.
“Since I arrived here I am doing a lot of physical and tactical training and I feel ready to play,” he said.
“Scoring goals is not easy but it is something that I strive to do in every match I play.
“The expectations from strikers are extremely high all over the world, as we are on the front-line so I am okay with that and scoring goals for my team will be my big mission in the PSL.”
Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa revealed that Pirates have agreed to conclude the payment for Chinyama.
“We discussed and agreed with Pirates on Chinyama and we have now cleared him.
“They agreed to pay our money in full and we are expecting it in our bank account today (Thursday),” said Mubaiwa.
DeMbare paid only US$15 000 for Chinyama’s services — Sports Reporter/Soccer Laduma/KickOff.
