A BULAWAYO organisation, Bulawayo Queens has donated more than ZW$44 000 and groceries to two families that lost six members in a horrific accident in South Africa two weeks ago.
The Mkandla family from Entumbane suburb which lost five members received ZW$25 000 and groceries while the Mhlanga family from Magwegwe West suburb which lost a breadwinner received ZW$19 000 and R500.
The six accident victims were buried last Saturday.
Ms Nomasiko Mkandla (33) who died together with her four-year-old son, Jayden Moabe, her siblings, Mluleki (30), Thulani (26) and Mthabisi (22) were laid to rest at West Park Cemetery while Mr Vusumuzi Makukisi Mhlanga was buried at Athlone Cemetery.
The founder of Bulawayo Queens, Mrs Bekezela Maplanka said they were touched by the tragedy.
“We were pained by the tragedy which befell these two women from our city and decided to pool resources together to assist them. We presented ZW$25 000 and some groceries to Mrs Nobuhle Mkandla and ZW$19 200, 60kg of mealie-meal and R500 to Mrs Pressure Mhlanga,” said Mrs Maplanka.
Mrs Mkandla lost four children and a grandson while Mrs Mhlanga lost her husband in the accident.
Mrs Maplanka said her organisation will engage some of the members to assist with counselling the two women.
Government provided ZW$60 000 towards the burial of the six people.
It said it will also reimburse the two families the money they spent repatriating the six bodies. — @Themkhust
