Beta Bricks tops 100 million green bricks

bricks are unfired bricks, which will undergo the final process of burning to give them their colour.

The company said the production is not only a record first for the company itself, but for the industry in Zimbabwe.
Output from the company’s Mount Hampden facility increased by 66 percent this year on the back of a steadily recovering construction sector.
Managing director Mr Godfrey Manhambara said the company had at the beginning of the year seen a sharp increase in the demand for bricks.

“We modified one of the plants as a response to the demand and eventually invested in additional equipment with a higher capacity and this has allowed us to increase our production,” he said.
He added that for 2012, the company anticipated green brick output to increase to 159 million bricks through modification of the existing equipment.

“Our focus for 2012 is on continued sustainable growth and meeting the needs of our customers.
“Demand for our bricks continues to exceed supply and we expect the residential construction sector and walk-in customers to continue driving demand,” added Mr Manhambara.

Beta Bricks is a subsidiary of Beta Holdings, one of the leading construction input suppliers in Zimbabwe.
The group manufactures a broad range of products including 15 brick types and roof tiles through its other subsidiary, Beta Tiles.
