Beta bus accident death toll rises

THE death toll in the accident which occurred at the 242km peg along Harare-Mutare Highway last week on Friday has risen to six, The Manica Post has learnt.

Five people were killed when a Beta bus burst into flames after colliding with a Harare-bound fuel tanker.

The deceased included the driver of the tanker and a passenger who were burnt beyond recognition after being trapped in the vehicle.

In an interview on the sidelines of a tour of the spot where the accident occurred, Minister of State for Manicaland Provicnial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere, confirmed that today another victim who was admitted at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital succumbed to injuries sustained during the accident.

“It is sad that we continue losing precious lives owing to road accidents. I have just been briefed that one more person died at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital to bring the number of deceased persons after this accident to six. We continue extending our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families,” said Minister Matsikenyere.
