A HONDE Valley man’s life has been left in tatters after a shocking discovery revealed his wife’s long-running infidelity, which included recording explicit pornographic content with her lover — some of it allegedly filmed in their matrimonial bedroom.
The man, Smart Paradzayi’s ,world was turned upside down when he uncovered the betrayal, while he toiled in South Africa.
The painful revelation has left Paradzayi emotionally shattered, grappling with the consequences of his wife’s clandestine affair.
The scandal came to light last Saturday when Paradzayi dragged his estranged wife, Hellen Mwonzora, and her alleged lover, Asher Mutasa to Chief Mutasa’s community court, revealing that the adulterous relationship resulted in the birth of a child.
He said the community, including young children, were all aware of the lewd footage. Paradzayi revealed that the discovery had shattered his life, leaving him struggling to regain his peace of mind.
What hurt him most, he said, was, not just the affair itself, but that his wife could so callously allow their home to be used as a setting for their pornographic act.
“I was in South Africa working for my family. I never expected that my wife would betray me like this. What hurts most is that some of the shameful acts were recorded in our matrimonial home,” he said.
Paradzayi’s suspicions were first raised when he intercepted steamy text messages in his wife’s mobile phone.
Although she initially denied any wrongdoing, Paradzayi later used a mobile unlocking app to access the locked phone, and uncovered a string of intimate messages between the two lovebirds.
He forwarded the messages to his own phone and confronted her. The betrayal deepened when he was sent graphic pornographic footage of the two lovebirds by a friend’s daughter.
He said Mutasa had gone to his friend’s home to have his WhatsApp updated and left the phone with his daughter.
Curiosity got the better of her and when she browsed through the photo gallery, she found shocking content involving the two lovebirds.
“There was pornography material involving my wife and Mutasa doing all sorts of dirty things. They did everything. The young lady sent all the photos and videos to her own phone before handing over the mobile phone back. She then looked for my mobile number and sent me the content.
“I was traumatised by the sight of those photos and videos. They would do it anywhere and anytime, even at my own bedroom,” said Paradzayi, adding that even his children were entangled in the mess.
His eldest son confronted his mom about the affair — only to be insulted and accused of trying to become “the father of the house.”
Adding insult to injury, Paradzayi claimed that the lovers used his property, gas cylinders and deep freezers, to operate multiple shabeens across Honde Valley, while he was hustling to support his family.
“They were literally making money using my property, while destroying my marriage and dignity,” he said.
He further revealed that, despite the overwhelming evidence, Mwonzora initially denied any wrongdoing when they appeared before the village head’s court.
“Even an ECD child here will tell you about those photos. That is how deep the scandal was,” he added.
When Paradzayi finally confronted Mutasa, the situation nearly turned violent.
“He told me that he is from the royal Mutasa family and owns this land, so nothing could be done to him. When I went with my children to recover my furniture, he tried to assault us,” he said.
During the court session, Mutasa confirmed the relationship, but claimed that he only found out that Mwonzora was married after they had already become intimate.
“We met while I was running a shabeen at Murare. She approached me saying she was single. Our relationship quickly escalated and we started doing business together. She offered me her deep freezers for a fee. I rented two for US$10 a month. When I was later told that she was married, I stopped seeing her,” he said.
However, Mwonzora contradicted him by admitting that he knowingly had an affair with her, adding that she even conceived a child with him. She also confirmed that the matter was taken to the civil court by her husband who was granted an eviction order against her.
“The court ordered my eviction, and I was sent back to my parents’ home. But a year later, my husband came asking for his family back. My parents initially refused, but later allowed me to return home — even though he was still in South Africa,” she said.
She told the court that there was a reason why she had acted in the manner that she did, but she did not divulge it. Presiding over the matter, Chief Mutasa expressed disappointment over the moral decay displayed by the pair.
He rebuked both Mwonzora and Mutasa for humiliating Paradzayi, saying, “So you two had turned Paradzayi into your slave. While he was sweating in South Africa to take care of his family, you were enjoying with his wife here. This is not just immoral, it is cruel.”
Chief Mutasa emphasised that the two had committed a serious offence, particularly for engaging in unprotected sex while Mwonzora was still married and under the care of her hubby.
Chief Mutasa ordered Mutasa to compensate Paradzayi with six cattle for adultery and emotional distress.
Three beasts are set to be delivered by September 26, and the remaining ones by December 31, 2025. Mwonzora was also ordered to pay three cattle to Mutasa’s wife as compensation for the humiliation and emotional damage she inflicted on her as result of the affair.
