DINO Mudondo believes that the recent drama sparked by Willom Tight’s son, Gary, has become a blessing in disguise for him.

Gary criticised Dino for performing the song “Chirangano” at the recently held 24th National Arts Merit Awards without his father, Willom.

The song belongs to Dino, who featured Willom, Rockford “Roki” Josphats and Sarah Mwayera.

The Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA) clarified that the song is owned by Dino.

Following the uproar caused by Gary, Dino has now severed ties with the Tight family.

“I don’t have any bad blood with Willom but, in this case, I am concentrating on my solo projects,” he said.

“I am happy with the advice I received from several people, including my personal advisor, Mr Andrew Muchena, who has encouraged me to revive my career.

“I can safely say that Gary’s social media outburst has been a blessing in disguise for me as many people are now making inquiries and show bookings following that row.

“Many were unaware that I am back from South Africa and busy working on my album with Gibson Makumbe.”

Dino expressed his disappointment that Gary is yet to issue a public apology while his father, Willom, has also remained quiet and unreachable.

“I don’t have a problem with Gary because he is the son of my friend, and I have always treated him well over the years.

“If you attend his shows, you will realise that over 50 percent of the songs he performs are my own compositions, especially ‘Chirangano’ and ‘Bhazi,’ among others.

“For your information, I have never complained about this. He even did a remix of ‘Ndichakumirira’ with Munya Viali, but I never raised any issues.”

Dino added:

“When it comes to his father’s compositions, Gary only plays ‘Wekumaruzevha,’ while the rest are mine, but I have no issues with that.

“His father also gets shows here and there and I have never complained when he plays my songs.

““I would be glad to watch him (Willom) perform my songs at major events like the BET Awards because I am a nice person who doesn’t want drama.”

He added:

“He knows the right thing to do, which is to apologise. But if he doesn’t, I won’t chase after him.

“I am a mature person and fully understand that sometimes kids overreact without doing their due diligence.

“My concern is that his father is also silent, so I have no option but to mind my own business rather than concentrate on these minor issues, which have nothing to do with our career progress.”

Both Gary and Willom could not be reached for comment for most of the week.

Gary’s phone is constantly being answered by his wife, who insists that he “has left his phone behind.”

Willom is said to be involved in tobacco farming in Headlands.
