IT’S Judgment Day at Barbourfields Stadium.

Emagumeni as Barbourfields is affectionately known, the proud home of Bulawayo football, will be on fire this afternoon as Highlanders and Dynamos lock horns in a fixture that always feels bigger than the league itself.
The old foes meet again, but this time it’s not for glory, it’s for survival.

Both giants find themselves in unfamiliar territory, fighting to stay clear of the relegation trapdoor. What was once a contest for the title has now become a battle to avoid the drop. Yet the rivalry hasn’t lost an ounce of its venom.

Bulawayo will hold its breath when the whistle blows for this latest Battle of Zimbabwe.
Only two points separate the sides. Highlanders sit on 35, while Dynamos, now under their former coach Kelvin Kaindu, trail with 33. For Kaindu, this is more than just another league game, it’s an emotional homecoming. His last appearance at Emagumeni as Bosso coach ended in June, and now he returns leading the blue army he once opposed.

“It’s a big game,” Kaindu admitted. “We want fans to feel that they got their money’s worth. Both teams will go all out for maximum points. It’s going to be an exciting match.”

The Zambian, who helped assemble much of the current Highlanders squad before his departure, called on supporters to fill the stands and keep the peace.

“The fans should come and spice up this fixture, cheer their teams, and shun violence. Everyone in our camp is available for selection, no injury worries,” he added.

Across the dugout stands Pieter de Jongh, a man who thrives on the intensity of such occasions. The Dutchman has spent weeks fine tuning his Bosso side for this test, and he wants fans to play their part.

“The fans should come in their numbers,” he said. “This will be a good game and we expect to win. We don’t want violence. We need to play to the end. We are ready to deliver in front of our home crowd.”

It’s a call for calm in a clash often remembered for chaos. Every time these two collide, tempers flare and passions spill over. Yet both coaches have been united this week in one message, let football be the winner.

The fixture is expected to draw one of the biggest crowds of the season, with tickets pegged at US$5 for the rest of the ground, US$10 for the wings, and US$20 for the VIP section. Security will be tight, with authorities determined to ensure a clean contest.

Highlanders will count on their passionate home support and the attacking flair of their forwards to unsettle Kaindu’s men, while Dynamos will look to their experience and tactical discipline to snatch vital points away from home.

For all the drama surrounding form and survival, this is still Highlanders versus Dynamos, a fixture that has defined Zimbabwean football for generations. Every touch, tackle, and goal will carry the weight of history.
Elsewhere in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, Triangle United host Chicken Inn at Gibbo Stadium in what could also shape the relegation picture. Genesis Mangombe’s side have struggled for consistency and need a strong finish to secure safety.

In Harare, former Cup Kings CAPS United take on Manica Diamonds at Rufaro Stadium in another must-win battle, while tomorrow Bikita Minerals welcome Herentals to Sakubva Stadium in Mutare.
