GLIDWELL Trading, trading as Bhola Hardware City, has been fined US$300 after being found guilty of contravening the Medicines and Allied Substance Control Act.
Harare magistrate Mrs Gamuchirai Gore convicted the company for possession of unspecified medicines for sale. The company was represented by its manager Bhavik Kanttial Jassa (32).
The State represented by Mandirasa Chigumira proved that on July 21 this year, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Harare received information that the company was selling unapproved complementary medicines at Bhola Mega Market.
On the same day, detectives carried out surveillance at the shop in question and observed unapproved complementary medicines being sold.
Detectives approached Jassa, identified themselves and advised him that they wanted to search the shop.
The court heard that detectives seized 587 x 3 millilitres bottles of Tsunami and one hundred and 161 x 19 gramme tins of Essential Balm, which are unapproved complementary medicines by the regulating authority of Zimbabwe.
The unapproved complementary medicines were recovered from the shelves and a glass display cubicle inside the shop.
Jassa was subsequently arrested and escorted to the CID Drugs and Narcotics offices, together with the unapproved complementary medicines.
