THE increase in sponsorship of the Harare Province Cup could go a long way in discovering new talent for Premier Soccer League teams.

The cup, sponsored by DEE’S Dairy who have increased the fund from US$10 000 to US15 000, is also aimed at fighting drugs and substance abuse.

The draw for the tournament was conducted on Monday in Harare, with sponsors and football administrators reaffirming their commitment to grassroots football development.

Speaking at the launch, the sponsor’s financial director Agrippa Suneti said the company had been encouraged by the impact of its involvement in the competition.

“Our primary goal is to assess the impact of our sponsorship and how it resonates throughout the entire province. Nationally, we have witnessed the severe toll that drug addiction has taken on the youth. However, since we began our sponsorship involvement, we have observed a remarkable transformation,” said Suneti.

“This support has given young people a real opportunity to redirect their lives. Many are now dedicating more time to sports and we are clearly seeing the positive influence that athletic engagement brings.”

Harare Province chairman Robert Tembo welcomed the enhanced sponsorship.

“What I truly want is transparency. What I want is discipline, as I have always said. I want this tournament to be defined by non-violence, a competition where we enforce the strictest possible penalties, not just on players, but on officials as well,” said Tembo.
